I was doing my own relexers using Affirm Relaxer.
Q: How long have you been natural?
I have been completely natural as of May 2010.
I had just cut the rest of my realxer out of my hair and had it professionally straightened.
Q: Were you a long term or short term transitioner, and why?
I was a semi-long transitioner. I wore my hair straight most of the time. I got my hair flat-ironed every week for a year straight. I suffered no heat damage doing this.
Transitioning. About 6 Months into my journey.
Q: What is your current regimen?
I currently wash my hair once a week with a sulphate free shampoo. I co wash through the week as needed. I get my hair trimmed every 8-10 weeks. I use Curls Crème Brule to twist my hair in about 9 twists. I do this every night unless my hair is straight.
Q: How do you maintain Length? Moisture?
I maintain length by keeping my hair protected at night with a satin bonnet. I also get my ends trimmed on a regular basis so they are not in bad shape in the summer when I mainly wear my hair out.
Q: Night time routine?
I sleep with 2 satin pillowcases. I also use a spray bottle with water, leave in condish, and setting lotion to spritz my hair before twisting at night.
Q: What would you tell a new natural, or transitioning diva?
Stick with it. It was plenty of days that I thought about returning to the creamy crack. You have to learn to say no and find what works for you.
Q: What’s the best thing about being natural?
Versatility. I love being able to wear my hair straight or a WnG. I have also inspired my mom to go natural. I have a 3 year old daughter that has curly hair and she loves my hair as well.
